We are transforming the investment landscape in Telford.
Telford is already a natural home for investors, innovators and entrepreneurs; our strategy is to unlock jobs and create growth that will improve the lives of all of the people who live in our borough.
The revolution continues …. as the birthplace of industry, the investment we’ve made in our infrastructure, people and by unlocking clean, ready to go employment land has created the ideal place for doing business.
With a commercial attitude to finance, property and skills brokerage we understand the barrier to investment by business.
This is why we are home to one of the largest investments made in the UK over the last 10 years.
Telford also offers a robust pipeline of next generation skills and talent, with the proportion of students enrolled in Engineering and Technology, and Science courses higher than the national average.
Over £200 million is being invested in our Building Schools for the Future programme. Schools attainment results in the catchment also outperform the national average when considering pupils gaining 5 or more GCSEs graded A* to C and average GCSE points scores and A level scores continue to outperform those obtained in England.
Telford has a range of adaptive, further education and training provision and also boasts top performing comprehensive and leading grammar schools; Newport Girls’ High and Adams’ Grammar schools both being ranked within the top 10 performing schools in the country.
Telford employers are able to draw on a large pool of graduates from the area’s nine universities including Wolverhampton University and Harper Adams University – The Times University’s Guide, Modern University of the year.
Our diversity and resilience in this sector is revealing and dispels the idea that the UK is a country that no longer makes anything. In an increasingly competitive global environment, strong domestic demand is boosting production levels across a wide range of manufacturing activities and investment in new facilities, machinery, research and recruitment continues for Telford’s manufacturers.
Food and drink
(including Agricultural technology)
Food and drink companies are the toast of the UK economy, bringing 16,000 new products to market each year. Here our companies range from micro businesses to major businesses with internationally known brands such as Muller and Dairy Crest. We have the advantage of being home to Harper Adams University College which has enhanced its international reputation with the establishment of the Regional Food Academy and who are now developing a national agri-engineering centre.
ICT and digital
One of our emerging sectors we’re working hard to develop a strong cluster that can compete for investment at a national level. The E-Innovation Centre at the Telford Innovation
Campus has around 40 small businesses that use digital technologies based in incubation space and at the other end of the scale Capgemini is the largest private sector employer in the Town.
Telford is now home to UKTI’s ICT and Digital ‘dealmaker’; Tim Luft of Woote is promoting the West Midlands internationally as a destination for investment.
Our central location and connectivity to both the wider West Midlands and beyond ticks one of the major boxes for those businesses that rely on physical connectivity for their customers and supply chain.
Telford enjoys purpose built infrastructure including serviced business parks designed to sustain growth and our strategic approach to transport connectivity has secured over £40m of Government funding to maintain, improve and create the infrastructure needed.
Other key connection investments include the Telford international Rail Freight Terminal that accommodates a wide variety of intermodal freight logistics with direct links to the national rail network, major sea ports and key locations across Europe via the Channel Tunnel.
Digital connectivity is also essential for business growth and we are ensuring through our Superfast Telford programme that 98% of our Borough will have Superfast broadband coverage by 2017 and aspire to achieve 100% coverage by 2020.
We will also work with our businesses to ensure that they optimise the benefits of Superfast connectivity as we recognise that the effective use of digital technology can improve the efficiency of factories, enable service-based business models and allow producers to get closer to customers and to collaborate across the supply chain.
The borough is also a great place to call home. From medieval market towns and 18thC industrial settlements to modern housing estates Telford offers a wide choice of homes and some of the most competitive prices in the UK.
A rich and diverse history the borough is also home to the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site and there is over 400 hectares of managed woodland and in excess of 15million trees. We’re greener than you think!
Our Town Park is over 140 acres and sits right next to Southwater a new multi-million pound leisure and entertainment spot at the heart of Telford town centre. On the other side is Telford Shopping Centre which is currently undergoing a £200 million regeneration.
